On 27 March 2026, SYECO's Green Schools Initiative, now in its 6th edition, came to Kiplelji Primary & Junior School for a day of tree planting, learning and community celebration under the theme "Reforestation, One School at a Time."
The day began on the school field. Learners worked side by side with SYECO volunteers, digging holes with jembes and planting tree seedlings across the school compound. Every learner who planted a tree also took on the responsibility of watering and protecting it, so that it can grow alongside them in the years to come.
After the planting, learners, teachers, parents and members of the surrounding community gathered for an assembly in the school grounds. Speakers from the school administration, invited guests and the SYECO team spoke about why trees matter: restoring degraded land, protecting water sources, providing shade and cleaner air, and building a greener future for the next generation.
SYECO's team, in their 6th Edition Green Schools Initiative T-shirts, shared the organisation's mission and vision and encouraged every learner to become an environmental champion, both in school and at home.
The Kiplelji Chapter carries forward the Green Schools Initiative's goal of restoring our environment one school at a time. We thank the head teacher, staff, parents, learners and community of Kiplelji for their warm welcome and for taking part.
